Josh Radnor’s character Ted Mosby has officially met the mother of his children on How I Met Your Mother and the actress behind the long-awaited role has officially been revealed!

According to People, Mrs. Mosby is 27-year-old Broadway starlet Cristin Milioti who was introduced during the finale holding the long discussed yellow umbrella in a train station. Milioti is seen buying a train ticket to Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) and Robin’s (Cobie Smulders) wedding where she and Ted will meet for the first time.

HIMYM co-creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas opened up about the iconic moment with Entertainmemt Weekly.

Bays and Thomas discuss what it was like to have Milioti on the sets saying, “Ultimately, when we were shooting the train station scene — this is actually fun — all the extras are staff from How I Met Your Mother. They’re all there. It was really fun. I kind of felt bad for Cristin because it was really like Jesus has risen when she showed up on the set — the whole crew was like ‘Here she is, the women we’ve been waiting for for 10 years!’ And she’s like, ‘I’m just an actor.’”

The co-creators note that it was important for them to not have a huge actress like Anne Hathaway or Amy Adams end up being the mother, noting that such a woman would not fit the role as the mother. Additionally the men note that it was important that after eight years that longstanding viewers had the opportunity to meet the mother even before Ted has a chance to catch a glimpse.

Thomas explains, “We've talked here and there about letting the audience see the mother before Ted. Would that be fascinating or let some air out of the balloon? We were scared of it for a long time, but this past season, it came up, and it just fit in so well.

“Ultimately we view it like we've been honing in on this mother mystery for so long. In season one, it was like a shot of planet earth from outer space. And we've honed in and honed in and honed in, and we look at season nine as like now we're down to Google street view,” he continues. “We've gone from a super-wide shot to super-microscopic-tight, and it just felt right to see the mother's face and to give the audience that gift and that knowledge.”

"There was something exciting about getting a little bit of her before Ted ever does,” Thomas adds, “There was something that we felt like this audience who has stuck with us for all of these years we wanted to reward them with that.”

The hit CBS series got the green light for a ninth and final season back in December and HIMYM fans could hardly wait to finally meet the woman behind the story.
