John Travolta has signed on to star in The Forger, a heist film that will be directed by Emmy winner Philip Martin.

According to a press release posted at Deadline, the film will be financed by Code Entertainment and The Solution Entertainment Group. They hope to start production later this year. Myles Nestel and Lisa Wilson of The Solution will take the project to Cannes to sell to international buyers. Executive producers include Anson Downes and Linda Favila and Craig Chapman, Kyle Jackson and Brendan Nutt from Siren Studios.

Richard D’Ovidio, who wrote Halle Berry’s The Call, penned The Forger. Travolta will play Ray Cutter, a petty thief who buys his way out of prison and hopes to start a life with his ailing son. However, the criminals who helped him get out of jail force him to take one last job.

The Wrap reports that this will be Travolta’s follow-up to Killing Season, which co-stars Robert De Niro. His previous film was Oliver Stone’s Savages.

As for Martin, he is best known for his television work. He won an Emmy for directing the TV movie Prime Suspect 7: The Final Act with Helen Mirren. He also directed the BBC’s Hawking with Benedict Cumberbatch and episodes of Kenneth Branagh’s Wallander.
