Joss Whedon, writer-director of 2012’s blockbuster The Avengers, appeared on Friday’s episode of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to promote his new adaptation of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, and took some time to discuss details about the Avengers sequel.
Whedon had previously announced that the follow up to last year’s mega-hit, The Avengers, would include the brother-sister duo of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, and expressed to Fallon why he was so excited about having these characters in the sequel.
“Their powers are visually interesting,” Whedon said. “One of the problems I had on the first one was everybody basically had punchy powers…there’s good stuff that [Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch] can do to help sort of keep it fresh.”
Though Whedon told Jimmy that he’s currently writing the movie and hasn’t begun casting the new roles, his appearance came on the heels of the announcement that Evan Peters will play the role of Quicksilver in Fox’s upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past. There's no discussion of the announcement, so Jimmy takes a crack at casting the roles himself.
The Avengers 2 begins shooting in 2014.
