Comic book movies have taken over the blockbuster summer events. Many such franchises have done well by strictly adhering to the source material. However, David S. Goyer, the writer of the Dark Knight trilogy and the upcoming Man of Steel film, says that the current DC plan is to move the characters far from their origins.

A promotional trailer featuring clips from the film and interviews with the cast and creators has been released online.

If you watched even not so carefully, you can see the word SEARS displayed predominantly in the background. Plus, the end of the promo ends with a little SEARS advertisement icing.

A lot is said in that short featurette, but nothing so spanning and impacting as Goyer's claim that the focus of the movie's creators was not on a representation of a comic book Superman, but instead a realistic portrayal of the iconic hero. The same approach to Batman led to the highly acclaimed and monetarily successful Dark Knight trilogy.

As theCelebrityCafe.com reported last month, Man of Steel is set to herald a new era of DC cinematic productions, at least in terms of theme. If that's the case, then usurping the attachment to comic books for a realistic approach to the DC characters will have a far reaching impact on the entire line. Just compare last year's The Avengers, which embraced comic-book-ness, with The Dark Knight Rises.

That search for realism carries over into the practical matters of a Superman living on Earth. According to Mashable, in a campaign bent on holding the character accountable to the laws of physics, a slew of experts and celebrities are weighing in on how Superman shaves - what with his indestructible facial hair and all.
