Vancouver pop-rock band Marianas Trench leads the 2013 MuchMusic Video Awards with six nominations. Frontman Josh Ramsay co-wrote Carly Rae Jepsen’s hit “Call Me Maybe” and are headlining area acts in Canada. Following the band is Torono-born rapper Drave with five and Nova Scotia rapper Classified with four. All three are up for Video of the year as well as Serena Ryder and The Weekend.
Carly Rae Jepsen “This Kiss” and Justin Bieber’s “As Long As You Love Me” are up against Avril Lavigne’s “Here’s to Never Growing Up,” Tegan and Sara’s “Closer,” and
Walk Off The Earth’s “Red Hands” for best Canadian international video category according to Hollywood Reporter.
PSY, co-hosting and performing is up for a nomination, Demi Lovato is also performing and is up for best video artist and in the best Fave international artist/group.
The award show airs June 16 in Toronto on a main stage in the MuchMusic headquarters’ parking lot and the adjacent street’s smaller stage surrounded by an estimated 10,000 fans according to Billboard. The music show airs on Fuse at 9 p.m. in the U.S and the red carpet arrivals begin at 8 p.m.
