While the success of the Veronica Mars and Zach Braff Kickstarter projects have left Hollywood wondering how useful this tool could be, Melissa Joan Hart has just learned that not everyone can be a Kickstarter success story. The actress failed to get even close to her $2 million goal to make Darci’s Walk of Shame.

Darci’s Walk of Shame would have started filming in September and have come out in early 2014. The project would also have been Hart’s first starring role since 1999’s Drive Me Crazy and could have saved her from the cable TV staple that she has become thanks to Melissa & Joey.

But there weren’t enough Sabrina The Teenage Witch fans who wanted to see her back on the big screen to save the project. Just 315 people donated to the project, bringing its total to $51,605 before Hart cancelled it. By comparison, the project had 2,364 likes on Facebook. So people were interested, but they just weren't interested enough to fund it.

Darci’s Walk of Shame failure could be a lesson for future Kickstarter projects. As Mashable notes, Hart didn’t seem to have her heart in it. While Braff created his Kickstarter to win complete control over Wish I Was Here, it looked like Hart would have backed anything that she could get her name attached to. She didn’t write the script for Darci’s Walk of Shame and there wasn’t a big name director attached.

It’s also possible that Hart just isn’t as famous as Braff and didn’t have the built-in fanbase of Veronica Mars. She did not tweet about the project after she cancelled it.
