Following in the footsteps of Randy Jackson, American Idol judge Nicki Minaj is planning to say farewell to the panel following Thursday’s finale.
"It's safe to say she isn't coming back to Idol,” a source tells Us Weekly. "She's okay with it. She had a great time but was only going to do one season anyway."
Jackson announced his decision to leave the show after 12 seasons last week.
Jackson’s departure in addition to news that Minaj will leave comes on the heels of reports that Idol producers plan to clean house, firing the likes of Mariah Carey, Keith Urban, Minaj, Jackson and executive producer Nigel Lythgoe due to a significant drop in viewer ratings.
Carey and Urban have been notably quiet following the news of a potential firing. Carey, Urban and Minaj joined the Idol judging panel last year after Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez opted to move on to work on their music.
Previous reports suggest that the network wants to get Lopez back on the judging panel, and although she has not denied or confirmed whether or not she would come back she did state according to USA Today, “I don't know. That's the question of the moment. I loved doing the show. I've said that over and over. If it came down to it and things were right and it worked out right, we have a lot going on right now.”
Lopez adds, “For an offer to come in and for me to consider it, I would have to sit down and look at my next year."
