Some are calling it a revenge attack, but an Indian citizen man detained in Pakistan died early last week in prison.

According to CNN International, Srabjit Singh died Thursday from beatings he received in an Indian prison in Pakistan. He was found guilty and sentenced to death of spying for the Indian government in connection to the 1990 terror attacks that took place in Pakistan killing 14 people. He suffered fatal injuries after a brutal attack with bricks by the Lahore prison inmates, noted by BBC. He died only a few days after the incident.

“I am deeply saddened by the passing away of Sarabjit Singh,” Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh commented on the incident. “He was a brave son of India who bore his tribulations with valiant fortitude. The criminals responsible for the barbaric and murderous attack on him must be brought to justice,” recorded by The New York Times.

Family members of Singh still hold that Singh was innocent. An autopsy has yet to be performed.
