The CEO of Papa John’s has apologized for a delivery man’s racist rant on a customer’s voicemail, which was left as a result of a “butt dial.” John Schnatter has since left a Facebook message on the company’s page.
After the Papa John’s employee left the house in Sanford, Florida, he can be heard talking to his co-worker in the car after butt-dialing the customer. He used racial slurs to complain about the tip, even though the customer said he left a 21 percent tip.
"I guess that's the only requirement for being a [insert N-word] in Sanford," he can be heard saying, ABC News reports. He also said, “Yeah, they give me five bucks there -- fine outstanding African-American gentleman of the community," to which his co-worker laughed.
After the customer posted a video to YouTube, explaining that they left a proper tip, Schnatter wrote on Facebook “Friends, I am extremely concerned to learn about the reprehensible language used by two former employees in one of our restaurants," the Facebook post stated. "Their thinking and actions defy both my personal and the company's values, and everything for which this company stands."
He also said they were “immediately terminated,” and said he “personally reached out to our customer.”
“My heartfelt apology goes out to the customer involved, his family, and our community at large,” he concluded. “I am very sorry that anyone would be exposed to these hurtful and painful words by any person involved in any way with our company.’
