The Master auteur Paul Thomas Anderson is already getting set to start work on his next project, Inherent Vice. His adaptation of the Thomas Pynchon novel is reportedly starting production this month and has Warner Bros. as a backer.

Cigarettes & Red Vines, a blog dedicated to the director, posted a slew of information about the project on Tuesday. The site confirmed a tweet two weeks ago from The Wrap’s Jeff Sneider, in which Sneider said that Annapurna Pictures, which backed The Master, was also backing Vice. Instead, Warner Bros., a studio Anderson has not worked with yet, is financing the project.

The project will start filming this month. Casting is still in the works, but the lead role does belong to The Master’s Joaquin Phoenix. According to Indiewire, there were reports that Charlize Theron was interested, but that wasn’t confirmed.

Finally, the site confirmed that Anderson has picked cinematographer Robert Elswit, who won an Oscar for Anderson’s 2007 film There Will Be Blood. While he worked with Anderson on every single one of the director’s films, he was replaced by Mihai Malaimare Jr. on The Master.

Vice is set in 1960s Los Angeles and follows the adventures of a detective on a kidnapping case.
