President Barack Obama visited the Jersey Shore on Tuesday and spoke alongside New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, signaling that the Shore is well on its way to full recovery.

In an arcade on the New Jersey boardwalk, the two tossed footballs in an optimistic demonstration of the recovery on the Shore. Obama scored 0 for 5 while Christie scored on the first try and was awarded a stuffed bear, according to the Associated Press.

Christie’s deftness with the football in “Touchdown Fever” prompted a high-five from Obama, only a recent example of the encouraging relationship between the two politicians, despite the political barrier between their parties.

After Christie scored easily on his first throw, Obama joked, “That’s because he’s running for office,” according to the New York Times.

At Point Pleasant Beach, Obama shook hands with a crowd that had gathered for his arrival, according to the New York Post.

Obama and Christie have consistently provided a breath of fresh air in the world of politics, crossing party lines to work together as they did after Hurricane Sandy hit New Jersey in October 2012.
