A village in Romania has won the Guinness World Record title for creating the largest flag in the world.
The BBC reports that the village of Clinceni created the flag, which measures 1,145 feet by 744 feet and features the blue, yellow and red of Romania’s flag. It takes up seven airfields in the capital of Bucharest and the unveiling event was shown on national television.
According to the Associated Press, Guinness adjudicator Jack Brockbank confirmed that it is the largest flag ever created and easily beats the previous record held by Lebanon.
“It gives me great pleasure to recognize a new Guinness World Record title,” Broadbank said after measuring the five-ton flag. “Congratulations Romania!”
Flags Factory made the flag, which weeks to complete and used 44 miles of thread. Prime Minister Victor Ponta and other politicians attended the ceremony in Clinceni. Unfortunately, the flag was unfurled on a windy day, so small sandbags had to be used to keep it grounded.
