Fans should not be surprised to hear that Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane has declined the opportunity to host the Oscars.
MacFarlane responded to the offer to return as host on Twitter writing, “Traumatized critics exhale: I'm unable to do the Oscars again. Tried to make it work schedule-wise, but I need sleep. However, I highly recommend the job, as Zadan and Meron are two of the most talented producers in the business.” He adds, “My suggestion for host is Joaquin Phoenix.”
MacFarlane provided the Golden Globes with some of the highest ratings to date, but also received a significant amount of backlash from critics who deemed a majority of his jokes and musical numbers inappropriate. The hosts opening number, “We Saw Your Boobs” caused an outrage among female celebrities including Jamie Lee Curtis and Geena Davis.
Despite the controversy, the Ted actor was still asked to return, but was firm on his decision that he would not return for a round two. In fact, when asked by a Twitter fan MacFarlane replied “No way.”
