Keeping the SNL connection strong, NBC announced Sunday that Seth Meyers, long time SNL writer, will be taking over host for Jimmy Fallon on NBC’s “Late Night.”
Host of "SNL’s," “Weekly Update,” and longtime head writer, Seth Meyers, has decided that he will be succeeding “Late Night” host Jimmy Fallon as he moves over to “The Tonight Show,” succeeding Jay Leno. According to, The New York Times, Meyers was quite excited to keep working with Lorne Michaels, who is the executive producer of NBC's “Late Night,” and Jimmy Fallon’s “Tonight Show” who is moving to New York:
“Working at ‘SNL’ requires 100 percent of your mental capacity — on easy weeks. And so I had not really spent a lot of time thinking about what I was going to do next. Obviously I can’t quit Lorne. So this seems like a pretty good deal that I have an opportunity to keep working with him,” said Meyers before Saturdays “SNL.”
With Both hosts planning to start their new shows during the time of the Winter Olympics next February, Meyers has decided to stay on “SNL,” while also taking over “Late Night,” in January. Appearing next to David Letterman, Conan O’Brien, and Jimmy Fallon, Meyers sits in rather good company according to Mr. Michaels:
“The thing that’s staggering to me is that since 1982 there have been only three hosts, and Seth will be the fourth. And when you look at the company, it’s all pretty good company.”
Excited about this grand opportunity he still has many decisions to make on whether or not there will be any formal formatting changes to the show. He doesn't yet know if he will even have a house band:
“I don’t want to make any broad pronouncements about how the show is going to be, whether it’s going to be the same or different,” Mr. Meyers said. “But I have to draw on my background in improvisational comedy and sketch comedy and stand-up comedy and try to find some mix of that.”
The “Saturday Night Live,” connection did not happen by mistake, apparently keeping everything together helps the work load stay balanced and make everything still doable:
“It’s all in the same building,” Meyers said. “‘Saturday Night Live’ will be more than the majority of my time, as it always has been. Both other shows will be run by people who know what they’re doing, and who I obviously believe in; and we all have a shorthand.”
According to, Cinema Blend, Both Jimmy Fallon’s “Tonight Show,” and Seth Meyers “Late Night,” will be airing around the year of 2014.
