A skydiver fell to his death in Southern California on Saturday and landed in a backyard. The 62-year-old’s last wish was to have his ashes spread in the sky in one last jump.
According to The San Diego Union-Tribune, Ken Oka of Mira Loma in Riverside County, plummeted to the ground Saturday afternoon. Oka was a part of a multiple skydiver group that was trying a maneuver when he got entangled in his parachute. He could not free himself and fell to the ground, landing in a backyard, where police found him around 3 p.m. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
KTLA reports that Oka was a skydiving enthusiast, having completed over 5,000 jumps. He even took part of a 2003 skydive that was in the Guinness Book of World Records for largest aerial formation. “He had broken pretty much everything, but he would get back up and just keep on going,” girlfriend Lynette Collins told the station.
His family said that he requested to be cremated and to have his ashes spread in the sky as a final jump.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the accident. Police are also investigating.
