Spiders From Mars bassist Trevor Bolder died yesterday from pancreatic cancer at 62.
Bolder joined David Bowie’s backing band in 1971, replaced Tony Visconti, and played on four of Bowie’s albums, including; Hunky Dory, 1971; , 1972; Aladdin Sane, 1973 Rolling Stone reported.
“Trevor was a wonderful musician and a major inspiration for whichever band he was working with. But he was foremostly a tremendous guy, a great man,” Bowie said in a statement.
Bolder worked on Bowie’s chart entering hit singles, “Changes” in 1972, “Starman,” and “The Jean Genie” according to Billboard.
After Bowie left the Spiders From Mars, Bolder joined Uriah Heep in 1976, replacing John Wetton, and also played on four albums including Firefly, Innocent Victim, and Conquest. After leaving Uriah Heep and joined Wishbone Ash he returned to Uriah Heep in 1983 and stayed with the band until his health no longer allowed him to play.
"Trevor was an all time great, one of the outstanding musicians of his generation, and one of the finest and most influential bass players that Britain ever produced," Uriah Heep said in a statement.
