As reviews for the latest installment in The Hangover series pour in, it looks like it might be a good idea to let the Wolfpack retire once and for all. Despite being projected as a box office smash, only 26% of critics have given it a positive review, making it certified “rotten” onRotten Tomatoes.

The series’ reception has been on the decline since the 2011 sequel to 2009’s The Hangover, which was acclaimed as “a funny movie, flat out, all the way through” by the late Roger Ebert and most other critics. The reviews for Part III are even worse than the critically panned Part II.

The Hangover Part III is not just crude, but tasteless, unlike the other installments in the franchise, according to Fox News reviewer Justin Craig. He says “‘The Hangover Part III’ is the weakest of the three films and should really only appeal to diehard fans of the franchise.”

The opening weekend box office numbers are not yet known, as the film only opened at midnight today, May 23, but the negative reviews have started piling in. E! News compiled a listing of many prominent publications outraged reviews, including The New York Post, The Hollywood Reporter, and The New York Times, who called the entire film “a dull, lazy, walkthrough.”

The critics are hoping The Hangover franchise is finally over, but the box office numbers, will tell us what the fans think.
