Zac Efron has picked up another project with Narc, a new crime thriller that Fox just acquired.

According to Deadline, Fox picked up the life rights to the story on Tuesday. Efron will play a popular college student who is on the lacrosse team and the class president. However, on the side, he helps police uncover drug activity on campus. It’s being described as a “college Donnie Brasco.”

The Hollywood Reporter notes that the script was penned by Grant Myers and it will be produced by Julie and Rick Yorn’s LBI at Fox. Matthew Reilly is co-producing. Efron’s manager Jason Barrett is executive producing with Doug Banker (We Bought A Zoo) and Jason Barrett.

Efron starred in the Nicholas Sparks film The Lucky One last year and took on a more adult role in the controversial The Paperboy. He’s currently working on Universal’s Townies and will co-star with Amber Heard in Autoban.

Efron is best known for starring in Disney’s High School Musical. His 2013 projects include Are We Officially Dating? and Parkland.
