“Clouds” by late singer/songwriter Zach Sobiech is expected to hit its debut on next week’s Billboard Hot 100. The single has already hit the top spot on the U.S. iTunes charts.
Sobiech had a rare and terminal form of cancer and died at 18. “Clouds” is being fueled by sales and increasing streaming activity after his passing Billboard reports. The video for “Clouds” went viral and has turned Sobiech into a role model for others fighting serious illnesses.
All proceeds from the single go to the Zach Sobiech Osteosarcoma Fund. Donations to the fun are at $280,000 and organizers hope to raise $1 million Kare 11 reports.
Stars recorded a tribute clip set to the song that featured Ashley Tisdale, Colbie Caillat, Anna Farris, Jason Mraz, Sara Bareilles, Jenna Fischer, Rachel Bilson, Phillip Phillips, and others.
“Clouds” was released on the non-profit Rock the Cause label and Billboard predicts the single could sell more than 200,00 copies this week ending Sunday, May 26. YouTube views is at 4.7 million worldwide. Airplay has not played a factor in the song’s chart standing because so far it has received minimal play.
Billboard will post next week’s Hot 100, which includes Sobiech’s debut single Wednesday, May 29.
