Lauren Iungerich, the creator of the hit MTV series Awkward, has left the show. She will stay on through the end of season three’s production.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the decision was mutual. “Awkward is a wonderful series and we appreciate the creativity and devotion Lauren brought to this show,” MTV Programming President Susanne Daniels said. “We wish her the best in her new ventures.”

The Hollywood Reporter notes that Iungerich will oversee production on the second half of season three, which finishes filming on Thursday. The last 10 episodes of the season will begin in October. The network is looking for a showrunner for a fourth season if it is renewed.

Awkward’s third season is the first with more than 12 episodes, with 20 in total. The season premiere drew 2.1 million viewers and it is the longest-running comedy on MTV.

Back in March, MTV decided not to move forward with Iungerich’s Hot Mess after she left the production. She also had her other pilot, Dumb Girls, turned down in 2012.
