Girl Meets World is officially happening.
The Boy Meets World spinoff, after months of fans’ anxious waiting for news, has been picked up by Disney the network announced on Monday, reports Time.
The series will follow Riley Matthews, the daughter of Cory and Topanga of the classic nineties show, and her best friend. Seventh-grader Riley will be portrayed by Rowan Blanchard and best friend Maya by Sabrina Carpenter, according to the Huffington Post.
Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel will thankfully return as one of TV’s most beloved couples.
Among other changes, Cory is now a history teacher at his daughter’s school and Topanga owns a pudding café. Furthermore, the show will be set in New York City, rather than the original series’ Philadelphia.
Michael Jacobs and April Kelly, creators of Boy Meets World, are both working on the new show.
“I am grateful to everyone at Disney Channel for the opportunity to reach my favorite audience, which has always been kids,” said series creator Michael Jacobs in a statement.
“Girl Meets World is a new show for a new generation that will be rooted in the same kind of honest, comedic storytelling about coming of age and the importance of family and friendship that made Boy Meets World so popular.”
The series will officially begin filming this summer and is scheduled to broadcast next year.
