Independence Day 2 is actually happening and will be released on the original film’s 19th anniversary. Director Roland Emmerich is going to have to find more landmarks to blow up before Will Smith (and hopefully Jeff Goldblum) can save the world again.

According to Box Office Mojo, 20th Century Fox officially scheduled Independence Day 2 for July 3, 2015. Emmerich is expected to be back in the director’s chair, which isn’t a surprise since he has spoken enthusiastically in the past about making a follow-up to his 1996 box office smash.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in March, Emmerich said that he had two sequels in mind - ID Forever Parts 1 and 2. Dean Devlin, who wrote the first film, already completed a script and James Vanderbilt worked on rewrites.

Will Smith’s return wasn’t confirmed. Emmerich is preparing for the release of White House Down, which opens on June 28 and stars Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that Fox had a busy Thursday, also scheduling Peregrine's Home for Peculiars for July 31, 2015. That’s based on Ransom Riggs’ Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and will be directed by Tim Burton.

X-Men: Days of Future Past was also rescheduled for May 23, 2014 and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was rescheduled for July 18, 2014, Days of Future Past’s old slot.
