Jerry Bruckheimer is one of the most prolific producers in Hollywood today, with his name on everything from CSI to Pirates of the Caribbean and the upcoming The Lone Ranger. The producer finally got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and several stars came out for the ceremony, including Tom Cruise and Johnny Depp.
KABC reports that Monday’s ceremony took place just outside the El Capitan Theatre. Bruckheimer’s films have grossed a combined $16 billion worldwide. His hits include Top Gun, the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and Beverly Hills Cop. In addition to CSI, he also produces The Amazing Race, both shows for CBS.
“Without Jerry, there would be no Pirates, there would be no Captain Jack,” Depp said. “Without Jerry, there would be no Lone Ranger, there would be no reinvigorated Tonto. So I have a lot to thank him for. The man is a legend to me, a legend to us all, hence this congregation to celebrate him for his long-deserved star on the Walk of Fame.”
Bruckheimer said that this was an “unbelievable honor,” noting that he joins names like Charlie Chaplin and Alfred Hitchcock. “I won't get too big-headed, though, because the list also includes Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse and the Three Stooges,” he joked.
According to The hollywood Reporter, Bruckheimer’s star was the 2,501st star issued.
The Lone Ranger, which also stars Armie Hammer in the title role, opens on July 3. Gore Verbinski, who directed the first three Pirates films, directed the film, which Bruckheimer and Disney hope will be successful enough to kick-start a franchise.
