Warner Bros. Man of Steel is doing extraordinarily well its opening weekend, earning $125.1 million, breaking the record for June box offices.

Man of Steel beat previous record holder Toy Story 3’s $110.3 million in 2010 according to Entertainment weekly. The Superman film starring Henry Cavill takes second place for best debut in 2013, Iron Man 3 coming in first. The film also debuted in IMAX and 3D, which made up 41% of its ticket sales. Amy Adams and Henry Cavill star as Louis lane and Clark Kent in the most recent adaption of the superhero story.

Dan Fellman Warner Bros. president of domestic distribution spoke out about how the film did in the Midwest after the Oklahoma tornadoes. “Superman’s roots are in Kansas, so movies about him have always done well in small towns,” LAtimes reported. “A few weeks ago, when a tornado devastated Moore, Okla., the local Warren Theatre had its roof torn off. They even used it as a temporary morgue. But they’ve since repaired things and this weekend our movie had one of its strongest performances in the country there.” The film is set to make at lease $300 million domestically.
