This is completely expected. With its impending release on Friday, Warner Bros. is already planning a sequel to the Superman reboot Man of Steel. It would reunite director Zack Snyder with writer David S. Goyer.
Deadline first reported the news late Monday, confirming that Goyer has signed a three-film deal that includes the film coming out this week, Man of Steel 2 and a Justice League film starring Superman.
The only question will be what Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan’s involvement will be. Nolan signed on to produce and help on the story for Man of Steel, but he has his own projects so his role in a sequel won’t be “full blown,” notes Deadline. Nolan is currently working on Interstellar with Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway, which will be released in November 2014.
Goyer is a Dark Knight trilogy veteran, having worked with Nolan on the story for the three films. He’s also producing Da Vinci’s Demons for Starz.
Man of Steel has a limited opening Thursday night and goes wide Friday. It stars Henry Cavill as Superman and Amy Adams as Lois Lane. michael Shannon plays the villain, General Zod. Reviews for the film have started rolling in and so far it has a 71 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
