Colleen Hoover’s New York Times bestselling Slammed series has come to an end with the third book This Girl.
The book is written in Will’s perspective as we revisit what happens in the first book, Slammed. Layken and Will have had a rough relationship filled with death, heartbreak, and wrong timing.
As they embark on their relationship of being newlyweds Layken asks Will to open up about the past. Will is reluctant at first to talk about the past because it holds so many painful memories but can never deny his Layken of what she wants. The book goes back and forth between being on their honeymoon and reliving the past.
Will retells the good and the bad of their relationship, the death of his parents, the death of Layken’s mom and all his intimiate and private thoughts he had. Will tells Layken about the loss of his parents and how it dramatically changed his life. This pushed Will to give up his football scholarship and start his teaching career at the young age of 21. We see that Will's job is vital so he can support himself and his little brother Caulder.
The book was perfect from start to finish Even though I am sad that this is the end of the Slammed series This Girl was the perfect ending. We see Will in a different light as he strolls down memory lane. Will suffered just as much as Layken did when their relationship came to a halt. At time Will seemed cruel and frustrating in the book Slammed but we realize that he did those things to protect Layken and to avoid complications.
Will is a selfless, compassionate, and understanding man that you can’t help but fall in love with his character. I loved the humor in the book and you really understand the dynamics of their relationship. Overall the book is beautifully written and brings you a happy ending.
Colleen Hoover is absolutely a phenomenal writer. This Girl is a heartwarming and emotional book that will have you laughing, crying, smiling, and falling in love with the characters. The Slammed series is a definite must read because it’s a fresh and addictive story line that will make you believe in love.
