Until Fountain Bridge is the latest novella from adult fiction author Samantha Young and was recently released yesterday. Young is a New York Times bestselling author from Stirlingshire, Scotland.
Until Fountain Bridge is based off Young’s other book On Dublin Street and follows the characters Ellie Carmichael and Adam Sutherland. Ellie Carmichael is a sweet, innocent, and beautiful young lady who wears her heart on her sleeves. She is the little sister of the intimidating successful, sophisticated businessman Braden Carmichael. Ellie has been battling her long time crush on Braden’s best friend Adam Sutherland. Adam is a charismatic architect who doesn’t do relationships as he jumps from women to women.
Braden and Adam have always protected and been overbearing towards Ellie. Ellie has always thought that Adam only saw her as a ‘little sister’ but realizes, as she grows older his antics are far from brotherly. Over the years Ellie falls in love with Adam and has no way of expressing her feelings so she writes in her diaries.
The novella is cleverly written through Ellie’s point of view as she lets Adam read several entries she has written over the years from her diaries. We see the love she felt for Adam blossom from the early age of 14. We learn that Adam started seeing Ellie as something more at the age of 18. One night changes everything when Ellie and Adam innocently brush their lips together. It ignites a flame in both of them and they struggle with the fine line of being ‘friends.’
Adam is reluctant to give into his carnal needs since Ellie is the little sister of his best friend and doesn’t want to ruin the friendship he has with Braden. That is the main reason he stays away but through out the book he is infuriating as he toys with Ellie’s emotions and heart. He scares off potential guys she who want to date her and gets all jealous yet he won’t be with her. An unforeseen illness consumes Ellie and Adam is given a quick push to fight for what he wants before it is too late.
The only flaw I found with this novella was that it was too short, with only nine chapters. I wished Young would have written more on their love story. This story really embodies a hopeless romantic happy ending.
Though the book cover can be deceiving it is an entertaining novella that takes you on a ride of the love angst relationship, as Ellie and Adam are both consumed with lust, jealously, heartbreak and love.
