The name of last month’s record Powerball jackpot winner is no longer a mystery. Florida announced today that the winner is 84-year-old Gloria MacKenzie of Zephyrhills, the small town where the ticket was purchased.
As we reported last month, the winning numbers were 10, 13, 14, 22, and 52, and the Powerball of 11. The jackpot was worth a record $590.5 million and MacKenzie has decided to a lump sum of $370.9 million, reports Tampa’s WTSP. While MacKenzie didn’t speak with the media, she said in a statement that the numbers were not special to her and she was just lucky enough to get the right quick-pick.
According to USA Today, this was the second largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history, behind the March 2012 $656 million Mega Millions jackpot that was split among winners in Illinois, Kansas and Maryland. It is the largest Powerball jackpot, ahead of the $587.6 million Powerball from November 2012.
She had 60 days to claim the prize. The ticket was purchased at a Publix store in Zephyrhills, which is best known for the brand of spring water that uses its name. The town has apopulation of 13,000.
