A Night with Janis Joplin is heading to Broadway this fall.
After first appearing in Portland, Cleveland, Washington, D.C., Pasadena, and Milwaukee the musical will play Broadway’s Lyceum Theatre.
The show begins previews on Sept. 20 and opens Oct. 10 according to Broadway.com.
The musical was written and directed by Randy Johnson. It celebrates one of rock ‘n’ roll’s greatest legends. The show goes through the journey Joplin took to become an unforgettable headlining act.
Mary Bridget Davies plays the role of Janis Joplin and performs hits such as “Piece of My Heart,” “Ball and Chain,” and “Me and Bobby McGee.” She has received critical praise for her performance earning her the 2013 Cleveland Critics Circle Award for Best Actress in a Musical and nominated for a 2013 Helen Hayes Award.
Davies is a blues singer from Cleveland and will be making her Broadway debut this fall the New York Times reports. She landed the role in 2005 after beating 150 actresses. Additional cast members will be announced later.
