Los Angeles Times reported that After Earth made it into the third spot for the weekend with $27 million in ticket sales. Now You See Me, the action packed magician film starring Jessie Eisenberg and Isla Fisher, made it to the second spot with 28.1 million in ticket sales.

For the second week in a row, Fast & Furious 6 was number one with 34.5 million in ticket sales.

According to Upcoming Movies, the racing thriller starring Vin Diesel and Paul Walker has accumulated 480.6 million nationwide. Cha-ching.

So why did After Earth lose even after The Wrap thought maybe it could beat out Fast & Furious 6?

Indiewire reported that After Earth is Smith’s most poorly received film by the critics since Wild Wild West in 1999 with a 12% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film’s director, M. Night Shyamalan, also could have hindered the film’s success.

ReelViews called the movie’s pacing uneven and said the audience would not be able to care about the character's because of their emotionally neutral portrayals.
