Amy Winehouse’s older brother Alex has come forward in a shocking new interview to state that he believes the late singer’s battle with bulimia is what actually took the life of his little sister.
“She suffered from bulimia very badly," Alex confessed in his interview with The Guardian. "That's not, like, a revelation, you knew just by looking at her. . . She would have died eventually, the way she was going, but what really killed her was the bulimia. ... I think that it left her weaker and more susceptible. Had she not had an eating disorder, she would have been physically stronger."
Winehouse died in 2011 from accidental alcohol poisoning following two investigations into her death. The "Rehab" singer famously battled issues with drug addiction, having checked into rehab months before her death.
Alex reveals that Amy became bulimic at the young age of 17 after being introduced to it by friends. They were “all doing it” he explained. Due to engaging in bulimia in her formative years, she couldn’t seem to shake moving into her 20's.
Alex adds, “We all knew she was doing it, but it's almost impossible [to tackle] especially if you're not talking about it. It's a real dark, dark issue.:
