Andrew W.K is attempting to set a new world record: Longest Drum session in a Retail Store.
The O Music Awards hosted Chiddy Bang’s record of 9-hour, 16-minute of free style and the Flaming Lips’ superhuman eight-show effort. Now they are hosting Andrew W.K’s attempt at playing the drums for 24 hours MTV reports.
“Despite my apparent confidence, inside I am actually a very small, trembling shell of a person, who is not only intimidated, but completely mortified and horrified by the ramifications of this challenge,” Andrew said.
Andrew adds he was excited but the reality started to set in. “I can’t even play one of my own songs on the drums all the way through without my arms burning,” he said.
The performance will be going on for the entire of the event and according to Forbes has some surprises. The Roots drummer and bandleader will join Andrew for a portion of the 24 hours as well as a number of unannounced special guest drummers.
The World Record conditions allow performers five minutes out of each hour for a short break and to tend to their basic needs.
“I’m trying to get the biggest drum set I can fit in the space. I never want it to be boring for me or for anyone watching,” he said.
The O Music Awards is par of the larges online music festival, Live Music Day Festival, which is organized by MTV, VH1 and CMT. The festival is begins on June 19 at 7pm.
