Anna Kendrick is reportedly in talks to play Cinderella in Disney’s adaptation of the Stephen Sondheim musical Into The Woods.
According to Variety, Kendrick is speaking with the studio about the part and if she gets it, she’ll join a cast already stuffed with A-listers. The cast already includes Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Chris Pine, Jake Gyllenhaal, Emily Blunt and Christine Baranski.
Kendrick recently starred alongside Gyllenhaal in the cop drama End of Watch. He is attached to play Cinderella’s prince, so they would definitely share some screentime together again.
Unlike Gyllenhaal though, Kendrick does have experience singing on screen. She starred in Universal’s surprise hit Pitch Perfect, which was loved by both critics and audiences. Kendrick also earned an Oscar nomination for Up In The Air.
The Wrap notes that Kendrick did land a role in Zach Braff’s Wish I Was Here and is also filming the musical The Last Five Years.
Into The Woods is scheduled for release on Christmas Day, 2014. The musical was written by Sondheim and premiered on Broadway in 1987. Chicago director Rob Marshall has been hired to direct the film.
