Anne Hathaway is celebrating her Oscar win for Les Miserables by not rushing into new projects. She only has a few on her plate and the newest is The Lifeboat, an adaptation of Charlotte Rogan’s historical novel.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hathaway will also produce the film for Working Title and Focus Features, which recently acquired the novel. The main character of the novel is Grace Winter, a woman accused of murder in 1914. She’s a widow who just remarried and she just survived the sinking of the Empress, an ocean liner. Now, she is stuck with her new husband in a lifeboat with a group of other people. The only problem is that there are too many people and someone has to go it the majority of the group hopes to survive.
William Broyles Jr., who has plenty of experience adapting dramas for the screen, wrote the script, notes Indiewire. Broyles’ credits include Apollo 13, Flags of Our Fathers and Jarhead.
The rest of the production team includes Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Liza Chasin from Working Title and Suzan Bymel and Ben Forkner of Film 360. They are still looking for a director.
Since winning Best Supporting Actress for Les Miserables, Hathaway has only signed on to star in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar and she is currently working on Song One. She did make a cameo appearance in Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Don Jon.
