Have you ever wanted the adventures of Archie, Betty, Jughead and their friends to be featured in a movie? Have you ever wanted them in a movie with zombies? Then, Hollywood has the project for you!

Warner Bros. has reportedly landed the rights to Archie Comics, but since the stories are apparently too bland for Hollywood audiences today, zombies are getting thrown in.

According to Deadline, the project is being scripted by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, a writer who helped save the Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark musical and wrote the Carrie remake. He’s also credited with working on Glee, so he definitely has the experience of writing teen characters.

Pitch Perfect’s Jason Moore was hired to direct with Roy Lee and Dan Lin producing. Executive producers are Jon Goldwater, Krishnan Menon, and Jon Silk.

It turns out that Aguirre-Sacasa is currently writing the Afterlife With Archie comic, which, he told Deadline, “combines two of my great passions: Archie comics and horror comics.”

He spoke with Archie creator John L. Goldwater about the project and they wondered what would happen if Archie lived in Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead world.

Cinemablend notes that the plot for the project is only “a high school comedy based on the original line of Archie Comics set in present day Riverdale.” So, Deadline is actually assuming that zombies are in the mix somewhere.

Aguirre-Sacasa also wrote a Glee/Archie crossover comic, so it could be possible that the writer might make the movie a musical.

Either way, it looks like Warner Bros. found some way to bring the beloved characters to the screen, it’s just a matter of seeing which route they go.
