The cast for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy has not stopped growing and is set to become one of the most eclectic casts in the past decade. Benicio Del Toro is the latest A-lister to board the film.

On Monday, Deadline broke the news that Del Toro will take a mysterious role in the film. The site’s sources would not say what the actor’s role will be in the ensemble cast. Del Toro, who won an Oscar for Traffic, joined Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice last week for a supporting role.

Deadline could say that Del Toro will probably sign on for more than one Marvel film, taking a role much like Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlett Johansson have in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Guardians’ casting has heated up again recently. Glenn Close also took a role and The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Doctor Who’s Karen Gillan joined as the possible female villain.

The film is set to be directed by James Gunn and the cast also includes Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana. Lee Pace and Michael Rooker are also playing villains. It’s scheduled for release in August 2014 and production starts later this month in the UK.
