The now famous woman who pelted eggs at Simon Cowell during the finale of Britain’s Got Talent has been identified as musician Natalie Holt, who’s part of a string quartet called Raven. Holt apologized and her bandmates have since commented on the incident.
As we reported, Holt surprised viewers and those present at the finale when she ran out on stage during finalists Richard and Adam Johnson’s opera performance.
Holt has since released an apology through the show, saying “I want to apologize to Richard and Adam for overshadowing their performance. I've never done anything like this before and in hindsight I have realized it was a silly thing to do,” NY Daily News reports.
She did clarify that she carried out the unusual scene because, "I took a stand against people miming on TV and against Simon Cowell and his dreadful influence on the music industry.”
On the group’s joint Twitter page, Holt’s all female bandmates wrote, "We were as surprised as all of you. Just to clarify the other three of us were working elsewhere. We found out when you did."
They added, "Natalie's decision to do what she did on Saturday eve was never discussed with the group or our manager; she acted entirely alone. We'd never condone such a disturbance & think Richard & Adam did a brilliant job of carrying on their performance under the circumstances."
A rep for Cowell, however, told The Mirror, “Simon is not angry by what happened – he just finds the incident incredibly bizarre.”
Holt has actually appeared on BGT before and has been known to protest shows like that, although it was the platform that fueled her career. She has written an explanation for her actions for The Guardian titled "Why I pelted Simon Cowell with eggs."
In it she writes "I don't dislike him personally; I just don't like what he represents," noting "The people who seem to benefit most from talent shows are the judges.
