After a worldwide survey, the subject of homosexuality being accepted or rejected in society is divided amongst countries.
USA Today reports that Pew Research Center conducted the survey across 39 countries to see how people viewed homosexuality.
Among 37,653 respondents, results find that North America has a broad acceptance of homosexuality with 60 percent of respondents in the United States agreeing with homosexuality, according to the Pew Global.
Countries that are predominantely Muslim or African have a high rejection rate of homosexuality with Nigeria having the highest percentage of rejection (98 percent).
Spain is the country with the highest acceptance rate of homosexuality.
With religion playing a central role in society, the research found that societies with a smaller practice of religion were more tolerant towards homosexuality.
Since 2007, the United States has become generally more tolerant of homosexuality as the percentage rested at 49 percent.
In countries with a wide gender gap, women were more likely to accept homosexuality than men, and younger people showed more tolerance to homosexuality overall.
