Rumors are afloat that Carey Mulligan is the first choice to play Hillary Rodham Clinton in the indie drama film Rodham. The movie is based off of young Hillary Clinton’s life as she started off as a young lawyer, put together her career, and eventually fell in love with future president Bill Clinton.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Mulligan is having a sit-down meeting with director James Ponsoldt to discuss the role, as she has already read the script and is very interested.

However, inside sources say no decision has been made and other A-list actresses are being considered for the role. The Hollywood Reporter says the role of young Clinton is one of the most sought after roles between actresses under 40. Actresses such as Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, Scarlett Johansson, and Emma Stone have also been rumored for the role – though The Wrap reports that it has always been between Lawrence and Stone.

The film is set to come out just in time for the 2016 presidential campaign. Though Mulligan is supposedly competing with Oscar-winning Lawrence for the role, Lawrence’s schedule may not allow her time for the role, as she is busy filming multiple movies, and even producing one.

Mulligan recently portrayed Daisy Buchanan in The Great Gatsby, which received both positive and negative responses. WME recently signed the actress over from CAA.

Who do you think should get the honor of playing young Hillary Clinton?
