A Dallas 911 operator named April Sims was fired after posting racist statements against African-Americans on Facebook.
Sims, 23, was fired for violating the Dallas Police Department’s social media policy, according to NY Daily News.
Sims referenced a 911 call she had received, writing, “You want to call 911 cause your boyfriend put his hands on you and you want to press charges when you don’t even know his real name?! Sure lets make a police report for Dino, that is his street name.”
The department, which hired Sims in December, has a policy against employees posting any information that could negatively affect the morale, confidence, and public respect of the department, according to the Daily Mail.
“Black people are outrageous! They are more like animals, they never know how to act, just loud [expletive],” Sims wrote.
“Always causing problems. I can count on 1 hand the black people I know who don’t have [expletive] for brains!!!”
At one point, she seemed to attempt a justification of her comments: “My boyfriend was robbed at gunpoint last week by 2 black males. They held a gun to his stomach took our $85 Wyatt’s formula, diaper wipes and veggies.”
Sims reportedly contacted a News8 reporter on Wednesday night, saying that she has not deleted any of the posts and stands by what she said.
Dallas City Councilman Dwaine Caraway stated that the incident “embarrasses not just the department, it embarrasses the city.”
“I am shocked and it saddens me to know that this is going on and still taking place in today's time.”
When another Facebook user questioned her statements, Sims wrote, “You should be more worried about the fact that there is often no Spanish speaker on duty. We have to call a 3rd party language line therefore causing those citizens to wait over a minute for emergency assistance. All because the city doesn’t want to pay employees more speak Spanish. That’s what you should be worried about.”
