Dee Does Broadway is Dee Sniders second album. Snider is known as the front man of glam metal rock band Twisted Sister.
Twisted Sister was known for their aggressive theatrics on stage from their music to wearing makeup and women clothing.
Snider stays true to the metal roots as he covers Broadway ballads. Snider collaborated with various artists on the album such as: Clay Aiken, Cyndie Lauper, Patti LuPone and Bebe Neuwitrth.
The idea of making this album came from talking to fellow musician Alice Cooper. It then evolved to a reality when Snider starred in the Broadway musical Rock of Ages.
Snider describes the process of developing the album, “The song had to speak to me as a singer on some level, and it could not be a rock song to begin with. No Jesus Christ Superstar, Grease, Hair, Rent, Rocky Horror, etc. What would be the challenge in that?” He said, “There are many who think doing an album of rocked out show tunes is pure insanity on my part.” According to .
Dee Does Broadway covers songs from West Side Story and Sweeney Todd to Sweet Charity and Chicago. Snider challenges himself with incorporating his metal ballad to these happy dance and conventional musicals.
In the track “Whatever Lola Wants” Snider collaborates with Bebe Neuwitrth and it demonstrates the twist of sinister metal and the catchy musical sound.
Dee Does Broadway is an eccentric album that exposes Sniders quirky and creative side. The tracks are fun to listen to and will have you singing along to the classic Broadway songs.
