Facebook is hosting an event on Thursday and the new product that could be unveiled will reportedly be a new Vine-like video app for Instagram users.

A source for TechCrunch claims that the new app will work much like Twitter’s Vine, giving Instagram users an ability to make short videos and easily share them.

According to PCMag, which couldn’t get a statement from Facebook, the app has been rumored about for a few weeks. Reuters’ former social media editor Matthew Keys wrote three weeks ago that a Vine-like service was on the way for Instagram. Keys claimed that it was being tested internally already.

Vine lets users share six seconds of video through an Apple and Android app. The videos can be seen directly on Twitter, unlike Instagram pictures. TechCrunch notes that since Twitter has introduced Vine for Android, links to Vine videos have skyrocketed over Instagram shares on Twitter.

Last week, Facebook actually sent an invitation to the press for a June 20 meeting through regular mail. The postcard said that “a small team has been working on a big idea” and that reporters can “join us for coffee.” It even had a coffee stain printed on the card.
