Fox 2000 has hired a director for Dare Me, a project that’s being called Heathers meets Fight Club, and the studio is hopeful that Natalie Portman might be interested in doing it.

According to Deadline, which broke the news, Dare Me is an adaptation of Megan Abbott’s novel. It centers on Addy Hanlon, whose best friend, Beth Cassidy, calls the shots and Addy makes sure her wishes are carried out. When they reach senior year, they are the leaders of the cheerleading squad, but when a new coach is hired, the status quo is disrupted, leaving Beth on the outside.

Abbott adapted her novel and Karen Rosenfelt will produce. Michael Sucsy was hired to direct. His credits include Grey Gardens and the Channing Tatum/Rachel McAdams hit The Vow. He’s also been hired to direct a Beach Boys biopic that’s in the works.

Deadline reported that Fox 2000 is only at the stage of courting Portman for the project. Although she hasn’t been on the big screen since 2011’s Thor, she still has several films in the works, including Jane Got A Gun. Indiewire reports that she’s also working on two films with director Terrence Malick and Thor: The Dark World.
