Considering how hands on George Lucas has been in the past with Star Wars, fans have been a little skeptical whenever he says that he wants to take a back seat with the franchise now that Disney is running the show. But it turns out that he’s keeping his word and he has yet to talk with J.J. Abrams about Star Wars: Episode VII.

Lucas won a Daytime Emmy as an executive producer on Star Wars: The Clone Wars over the weekend and spoke with Access Hollywood after he picked up the award. While he celebrated the win, the show had to ask if he had any communication with Abrams, who is directing Episode VII.

“I have not spoken to J.J. He’s been busy with Star Trek, and I’m sure that he’ll let me know when he’s got some questions,” he said, reports Slash Film. “ So, you know, that’s all going well.”

He added that Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy “tells me it’s working out great.”

So for those hoping that Lucas will really not meddle with the new films, this is great news. He has said that he’s not done with filmmaking, but he’s moved on from Star Wars. It looks like that is really the case. Considering how the prequels - which were all directed by Lucas - turned out, this is the best news a fan could hope for.

Abrams now has Star Trek Into Darkness in the rear view mirror. The film was released last month and he’ll quickly be heading overseas to start production on Episode VII. He said this month that production is set to start in London in early 2014.

The script for Episode VII will be written by Michael Arndt and is set for release in 2015.
