A series of tragic events took place near Santa Monica College as a gunman burned down a house and fired shots on campus and in traffic.
According to USA Today, the gunman burned down the house three miles from where President Obama was visiting for a Democratic fundraiser, however, the gunman’s actions are not connected to the fundraiser.
The gunman made his way onto campus before noon on Friday and began shooting in multiple locations, Huffington Post reported.
After firing shots in the campus library where students heard screams, police took the gunman into custody and continued to look for other suspects.
A student at Santa Monica College, Jimes Gillepsie described the gunman to Associated Press as a 20-year-old white man wearing black overalls and carrying a shotgun. He also said there might have been two shooters after hearing two different kinds of gun shots.
“The shotgun blast was first. It was either him or the partner who shot eight to 10 handgun shots. Then after I saw the gunman I heard more shots and I ran out of the library through the emergency exit,” he said.
Four victims were admitted to UCLA hospitals: two victims in critical condition while one is in serious condition and the other is in good condition, Hollywood Reporter reported.
Two victims have been found dead.
