With the new Hanson Album titled, “Anthem”, we get a great mix of pop, funk, and rock on this great summer record.
The album starts out with a very nice track aptly named “Fired Up”. It’s a track filled with funk and leads into the funk part of the album. With songs like “Fired Up”, “I’ve Got Soul”, and “Get the Girl Back”, we have on our hands a great funk part of the album.
The next part of the record is straighter up piano ballads and a mixture of piano rock and soft rock which fits perfectly. Some of these tracks include “Juliet”, You Can’t Stop Us”, and the ever surprising organ filled “Already Filled”. These were stellar tracks, and the exact type of songs we have come to expect from Hanson over the past few years.
The album finishes up with two very unique parts. The first part being the summer song, “Scream and be Free”, as well as the every funky “Tragic Symphony”, gives this album a bit more life as it was starting to go flat before. The final part is what we have come to expect from a Hanson album. As was seen with “The Walk” and “Shout It Out”, the album finishes out with two very slow and solemn tracks.
All in all, I would say this was a good follow up to 2010’s “Shout It Out” by the brothers Hanson. It could be better but was an all-around good record. I look forward to more from the Oklahoma brothers.
