Hunter Hayes picked old friends in Striking Matches to open for his June 18 MTV Artist to Watch LIVE show in New York City.

Striking Matches made it to the finals of the O Music Awards’ “Make A Band Famous” competition. The winner gets to play VMA weekend in August and will be featured on MTV, VH1 or CMT according to MTV.

“You know, we kind of felt like we’ve like we’ve won it already because our fans have been incredible with voting and spreading the word. And you know, it’s an honor just to make it this far and all that, but we really want to win, if only because our fans have worked so hard just to get us here,” Matches member Justin Davis said.

Even if the duo does not win the competition they still get the chance to play an MTV event.

“We’re really hoping we can win it all,” Matches member Sarah Zimmermann said.

Hayes’ re-release of his self-titled debut will be out June 18 and is going on tour this fall to support the album Billboard reports.

“This is gonna be my chance to finally put together a show with the production and the time I need, and I love that I get to pick an opening at like Miss Ashley to come be part of it,” Hayes said.

Tickets to Hunter Hayes headlining tour go on sale June 14.
