About the meaning behind the album Deaton said on his website JacobAllenDeaton.com, “I named the album ‘Tribulation’ because every one of the tunes provided a challenge, whether it was improvisational or compositional.”
Deaton’s sound has an easy going sound with the mixture of blues. “Tribulation” is the first single off the album and starts off with a fresh saxophone sound. This track is was a great way to kick off the album because of the fierce saxophone solo and guitar manipulating the sound.
In the next single “Eclipse” the upbeat tempo is continued. It starts a bouncy sound with the saxophone flaring and the drums maintaining the rhythm. This style and tempo is consistent in each track. The album ends strong with the single “Sketches of Trane” with the combination of the horns howling in harmony and the bass blasting through. In this single it embodies the talents of each member in the group.
Tribulation introduces Jacob Deaton as an up and coming jazz star.
