Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum must not be ‘expensive’ enough. Director Roland Emmerich said that the two actors will be appearing in Independence Day 2. He also said that he is hoping Will Smith will agree to make a cameo.

Although Emmerich is supposed to be promoting White House Down, which opens on Friday, he has not stopped talking about ID4 2, which Fox confirmed is in the works last week. The director made headlines earlier this week by saying that Smith was “too expensive” to appear in the sequel to the 1996 box office smash.

However, it appears that Pullman, who played the braze pilot president, and Goldblum, who was the nerdy scientist who helped save the world, are more affordable. Emmerich told Movies.com Monday that they will have a role in the film. When asked how big a part they will play, all he said was that their roles are “unusual.”

As for Smith, Emmerich backpedalled a bit on his original comments, saying that he is still hopeful that the After Earth star will agree to do a cameo to “pass the torch” to a new hero.

Pullman certainly has the time to do ID4 2. His NBC comedy 1600 Penn (in which he played the president as well) was cancelled after a season and he currently isn’t attached to any new projects with a release date. Goldblum is a bit busier, since he has a role in Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel.

ID4 2 is slated for release on July 3, 2015.
