Director Jon Favreau is working on Chef, his first film since 2011’s Cowboys & Aliens. It’s set to be on a much smaller scale, although it has still attracted plenty of stars. Open Road Films snagged distribution of the film and will release it in May 2014.

According to Variety, the distributor has set May 9th, 2014 as the release date for the indie comedy, which Aldamisa Entertainment is financing. The Iron Man director will take the lead role, with Sofia Vergara, Scarlett Johansson, John Leguizamo and Robert Downey, Jr. rounding out the cast.

Favreau, who signed on to star in, write, and direct the movie in April, will play a disgraced chef who decides to open a food cart to try to reestablish himself and reconnect with his family.

“Led by the wildly talented Jon Favreau, this is a very exciting project with a fantastic script and a truly incredible group of actors,” Open Road CEO Tom Ortenberg said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.

The production will be based in LA and filming starts next month.

Another film titled Chef is in the works from The Weinstein Company. That project will star Bradley Cooper, with John Wells directing. In it, Cooper also plays a disgraced chef trying to reestablish himself, but it isn’t being billed as a comedy.
